Self-pay visit planning
Self-pay urgent care pricing
No insurance, or planning to pay directly? Ask the clinic for a clear explanation of the evaluation charge and any additional services before your visit.
At a glance
- Ask for the current office-visit charge
- Confirm which services are included
- Check separate testing and imaging fees
- Request an estimate for planned care
What to know
Understand the total, not just the visit fee
An office evaluation, a school or employment physical, an X-ray and a lab test are different services. A base visit charge is not automatically the total cost. Ask whether imaging interpretation, outside laboratories, procedures or medications may have separate fees.
What to ask before you arrive
Tell the clinic which type of visit you are arranging. Ask for the current price and payment policy; rates advertised by directories or other clinics may not match this clinic’s fees.
- What does the evaluation charge include, and what could cost extra?
- Will an outside laboratory or imaging reader send a separate bill?
- When is payment due, and which payment methods are accepted?
- If I have insurance, what are the implications of choosing not to use it?
Request an estimate for planned care
If you are uninsured or do not plan to use insurance, ask the clinic about a written Good Faith Estimate when scheduling care or requesting a quote. Estimate requirements depend on scheduling and circumstances; a general price on a website is not an individualized estimate. Do not delay emergency care to obtain a price.
